Terms of Service

Last updated 2026-09-13

These are the terms for using SQLearn. They are short because the site is simple: it is a free place to learn SQL. Using the site means you agree to them.

What SQLearn is

SQLearn is a free, browser-based SQL course with exercises, quizzes, a playground, a daily challenge, leaderboards and community-written puzzles. It is provided by an individual, not a company, and is offered as is.

Accounts

You do not need an account to learn. If you create one, you are responsible for keeping access to the email or sign-in provider it is tied to. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

One person, one account. Do not create accounts to game the leaderboard. We may remove accounts or leaderboard entries that are clearly automated or abusive, and we will tell you if we do.

You can delete your account at any time from the settings page.

Acceptable use

  • Do not try to break the site, its database or other people's accounts, or to get around the row-level permissions that keep accounts separate.
  • Do not scrape other users' profiles or automate submissions.
  • Do not submit community puzzles that are offensive, infringe someone else's rights, or are designed to mislead learners.
  • Do not use the site for anything illegal where you live.

The SQL sandbox runs entirely inside your browser, so feel free to break the practice database as much as you like. That is what it is for.

Community puzzles you submit

When you submit a puzzle, you keep ownership of it. You give SQLearn a worldwide, royalty-free licence to display it on the site, credit you as the author, and edit it for clarity or correctness. You confirm you wrote it or have the right to submit it.

Submissions are reviewed before they appear. We can decline or remove any submission without giving a reason. If you want a puzzle you wrote taken down, email us.

Our content

The lessons, exercises, quiz questions, practice data and design are ours. You are welcome to use them to learn, to quote short parts with a link back, and to share links to any page. The SQLearn name, logo and code are not licensed for reuse.

Progress, XP and badges

XP, levels, badges, streaks and leaderboard positions are for fun and have no monetary value. We may adjust how they are calculated, reset a leaderboard, or fix scores that came from bugs or cheating.

Donations

The "Buy me a pizza" button links to Buy Me a Coffee. Donations are voluntary, are handled entirely on their site under their terms, and do not buy any feature, service or obligation from SQLearn.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We work hard to keep the lessons correct and the site running, but we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose, and we may change or discontinue any part of it at any time. Back up anything you care about; it is free and run by one person.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, SQLearn and its author are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, including lost data or lost progress. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us, which for a free site is nothing.

Privacy

How we handle your data is explained in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms. The date at the top tells you when. Material changes will be mentioned on the home page for a while. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If any part of them is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
